MEET THE PRODUCER
Microbeneficio Corazón de Jesús belongs to the Alvarado Fonseca family, which by their determination to improve, decided to start a micro mill in November of 2015. This small family business focuses on the production of specialty coffees from the Chirripó micro region, surrounded by both the Chirripó Mountain, the highest mountain of the country, and Cerro de la Muerte. Brunca Region is an area that, sadly, in the past didn’t have a good reputation for quality coffee. However, over the past decade sub-regions like Chirripo and micro mills, like the Alvarados’, have made the production of this region pretty unique! The coffees have been recognized for its good quality, in addition to its people with great dedication, effort, and passion.
The main purpose of the Alvarado family business is to give their best effort to have practices in harmony with the environment, dedication and passion for their work; in order to give the consumer a different and unique quality. This family was acquiring their farms little by little, because this area was not considered prosperous to grow coffee, the crops are very new, so the passion for coffee has been transferred from the father to his children
John Alvarado with a lot of effort and the hard work of his family was acquiring their properties despite the difficulties they have had and they have been improving year after year
The Alvarado family is headed by John Alvarado and Katthya Fonseca, founders of the mill and parents of Johnny, Marylin, Eva, Abraham and Jhoel, their older children Johnny and Marylin, 20 and 19 years old, who are the head of this project, collaborate with their father with the administration and they always contributing with the new ideas to improve quality year after year. Also together with their sister Eva and brother Abraham they are in charge of helping with the quality control of the farm and of the processes each harvest, these young visionaries are a very important part of Corazon de Jesus mill, with their work, dedication and passion contribute to forging better fruits always and a very positive future can be envisioned for them.
Currently Corazon de Jesus is being part of the Bandera Azul program, which consists of encouraging those chosen to have sustainable practices in terms of environmental issues, conservation and water management, in order to contribute to caring for the environment and promoting development for all the habitants of the planet.
